HOW TO GET INVOLVED WITH THE SLAB? - Learn more
The National High School BBQ Association mission is to empower and inspire students through a Project Based Learning program where high school students learn 21st century skills and have the opportunity to launch their careers through the participation in the American tradition of a Cook Off. We would like to expand THE SLAB program to more schools throughout the United States. However, this means that we need more volunteer mentors for our schools. Individuals knowledgeable in any of the following categories and have time to visit schools and mentor students are encouraged to apply by filling out this application.
There are many different ways to join THE SLAB Program; from volunteering your time as a mentor to a local school, to becoming a NHSBBQA Teacher and Charter school, or District attending one of our events across the country. THE SLAB program welcomes any and all interested persons or organizations to get involved in encouraging student STEW (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Welding) involvement through NHSBBQA projects, events, and classroom curriculum..

What is Project Baste BBQ?
Learn more about the National High School BBQ Association (NHSBBQA).
The National High School BBQ Association (NHSBBQA®) and its High School BBQ league is an activity that doesn’t discriminate based on popularity, athletic skill, gender, size, or academic ability. It’s a different kind of team sport. It’s open to any student or group of students in middle or high school. Its biggest supporters are professional educators because we were founded by teachers. Teams and teachers come together around one thing: Live Fire Cooking and experiential learning called Project Based Learning or we like to call it PROJECT BASTE BBQ!
The NHSBBQA in the Schools Program is an in-school program aimed at improving educational performance among students in grades 7th – 12th. And through it, students are learning focus, self-control, discipline, patience, and the life lessons required to be successful in the classroom and in life.
Our BBQ Curriculum was written by BBQ Pit masters, Chefs, and High School educators to meet State and National Standards. This enabled us to speak the language of educators who are intent on teaching core content throughout the school day. Our lessons are designed to be incorporated into many different content areas, career pathways, and align well with many Career and Technical Student Organizations.
