Programs operated under the National High School BBQ Association® (NHSBBQA®) are educational in nature.

Participation in NHSBBQA® programs does not constitute a franchise, business opportunity, partnership, joint venture, or commercial enterprise under federal or state law.

Educational License — Not a Franchise

Schools, districts, and state associations participate through an educational license that permits approved use of NHSBBQA® names and branding solely for educational programs conducted in school-appropriate settings.

This participation model:

  • Does not involve the sale of a business

  • Does not convey commercial rights

  • Does not grant territorial exclusivity

  • Does not require operation of a for-profit enterprise

No franchise fee is charged, and no franchise relationship is created.

Local Control Is Preserved

Participation in NHSBBQA® programs does not alter or limit the authority of schools or districts.

Schools and districts retain full control over:

  • Curriculum and instructional decisions

  • Staffing and supervision

  • Budgeting and funding sources

  • Student eligibility and participation

NHSBBQA® establishes national educational standards and oversight, not operational control of schools.

No Commercial or Profit-Sharing Arrangement

NHSBBQA® programs are designed to support student learning and career exploration, not commercial gain.

Participation does not involve:

  • Profit-sharing arrangements

  • Royalties tied to school operations

  • Commercial sales requirements

  • Marketing or sales quotas

Any program fees, where applicable, support educational services, curriculum resources, and program administration.

Grant & Public-Funding Compatibility

This educational participation model is structured to align with:

  • Public-school governance requirements

  • Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs

  • Perkins and other public-education funding frameworks

Participation does not require schools or districts to assume financial risk or commercial obligations.
