National High School BBQ Association® licenses standards, safety, and credentials — not territory. States and Schools keep the majority of revenue, schools face minimal upfront costs, and students gain access to real-world skills and competitive Food Sport opportunities rooted in education.

This model ensures that NHSBBQA® exists to serve students first, empower schools and states, and protect the long-term integrity of youth live-fire cooking and barbecue competition.

How It Works

NHSBBQA® operates as a national standards and governance body, not a franchise or for-profit league.
We license how programs are run safely and fairly, while local leaders manage how programs grow in their communities.

That means:

• Licensed Standards
  NHSBBQA® establishes national standards for safety, judging, credentials, and competition integrity. These standards are consistent nationwide and designed for public school environments.

• Local Control
  State High School BBQ Associations operate independently under these standards. They retain the majority of locally generated revenue and work directly with schools, educators, and community partners.

• Student Impact
  Students gain access to hands-on learning, leadership development, workforce-aligned credentials, and competitive experiences that translate beyond the cook site and into real careers.
