NHSBBQA - How Permission Is Granted

How Permission Is Granted

School Participation in NHSBBQA® Programs

The National High School BBQ Association® (NHSBBQA®) authorizes schools to participate through an approved educational license. This ensures student safety, program quality, and clear expectations for schools and communities.

What “Permission” Means

Permission to use NHSBBQA® names, logos, and program identifiers is intentional and conditional.
It is granted to schools that agree to operate programs consistent with national educational standards and local school policies.

Permission is not automatic and is not implied by website references, social media posts, or prior participation.

The Approval Process (At a Glance)

  1. School Interest
A school or district expresses interest in participating in NHSBBQA® programs.

  2. Program Review
NHSBBQA® reviews the proposed program to confirm:

    • Educational purpose

    • Adult supervision

    • Age-appropriate activities

    • Alignment with school and district policies

  3. Educational License
Upon approval, the school receives authorization to:

    • Participate in approved programs

    • Use NHSBBQA® branding for educational purposes

    • Access curriculum and resources

  4. Ongoing Compliance
Permission continues as long as the program:

    • Meets safety and supervision standards

    • Operates as an educational (non-commercial) program

    • Uses branding as approved

What Schools Are Agreeing To

By accepting permission, schools agree to:

  • Supervise students through approved educators or adult leaders

  • Follow published safety and program standards

  • Use NHSBBQA® branding only as approved

  • Maintain compliance with district and state requirements

This protects students, schools, and the integrity of the national program.

What Schools Are Not Agreeing To

Participation does not require schools to:

  • Purchase a franchise

  • Transfer trademark ownership

  • Operate a business or commercial enterprise

  • Give up local control over curriculum or staffing

  • Participate exclusively

Schools remain fully autonomous educational institutions.

Oversight & Accountability

NHSBBQA® maintains national oversight to ensure programs remain safe and educational.
If standards are not met, authorization may be reviewed, limited, or revoked.

This oversight ensures that families and communities can trust what the NHSBBQA® name represents.

Plain-Language Summary

“Schools receive permission to participate by approval, operate under educational standards, and keep full local control.”
