The National High School BBQ Association® (NHSBBQA®) operates through a licensed and chartered governance structure to ensure educational integrity, student safety, and school alignment.
If you are asking, “Is this program official?” use the checklist below.
✔ Operates under the National High School BBQ Association® (NHSBBQA®)
✔ Is a licensed State High School BBQ Association® or a chartered school program
✔ Follows education-first, CTE-aligned programming
✔ Is teacher-led and school-approved
✔ Adheres to published safety and live-fire standards
✔ Uses approved NHSBBQA® branding and naming conventions
If any of these are missing, the program is not officially sanctioned.
Uses generic or misleading “High School BBQ” language without NHSBBQA® affiliation
Cannot provide a School Charter or State License
Operates independently of schools or educators
Focuses solely on competition or entertainment
Lacks clear safety protocols or governance
Official NHSBBQA® programs:
Align with Career & Technical Education (CTE)
Support classroom instruction
Do not require competition
Maintain student-first policies
Schools may participate without competing.
Official programs:
Are governed nationally
Maintain consistent standards
Protect brand alignment
Operate with transparency and accountability
